Web Design Books!

I just bought myself another book to read: Designing For The Social Web, it looks REALLY good!

I had a meeting with Jason a few days ago, it was with a client of his discussing their idea for their website.  Basically, they came up with the idea randomly one day and wanted to see if it could be converted into an actual site and give them a return on investment.  Well, the idea went from one minor site to something huge!  It was really exciting.  Jason and I were trying to think of ways to make them money like ads (which weren’t the best), product selling, or having a premium user thing.  It was a very educational meeting, and I’d love to have more with Jason.  The client is really excited with the direction that it’s going!

So here are the books that are currently being read:

  • The Definitive Book of Body Language
Absolutely a great book!  Very informative, but I was told from Jason that the books on the market for body language aren’t up to par.  So the next book I get will focus on facial expressions.  He’s really into books that help you depict lies.
  • An Incomplete Education: 3,684 Things You Should Have Learned But Probably Didn’t
Another great book.  Most my books I read are about web design and I wanted something, besides the above, to make me a more well-rounded individual.  This book really helps!
  • Your Marketing Sucks
Don’t you just love the title?  Amusing!  It’s a great book that really got me into the world of marketing, cause I wasn’t really sure what it was all about to begin with.  Although, I did read All Marketers Are Liars, which also helped me learn more about marketing.  I’m not really a big fan of it yet though.
  • Information Architecture
Interesting read, a lot of information thrown at you, barely any visuals, but I have to get through it if I want to be better at organizing sites in the future.
  • Web Design For ROI
A great read.  ROI stands for Return On Investment, which gets me more into the e-commerce side of the web.  It’s a nice skinny book with lots of visuals!  It’s more my style haha :)

That’s a lot of books actually!  And I just bought another one!  I have to get these read :)

Ah and in Jason’s new studio, he’s bringing all his books and magazines over so that’ll give me MORE to read.  But I love reading now.  I used to hate.  I think I read one book in college and 0 in high school so it’s a big step for me.  Plus, I’m getting Craig to read “Don’t Make Me Think“, and he never read a book ever.  Huge deal.

Well, I’m off.  Craig’s coming over and I’m teaching him “Let It Ride” and we’ll play poker.  He’s going to AC with me June 21st and 22nd!!!!!

But I’m happy.

It was a very solid, good Christmas this year.  I’m surprised, cause of this year being hell on wheels, and then all my other friends (except for Sarah)  are depressed lol.  Everyone I talk to has either lost their job (I’m not just pointing at you Dora, Isabelle did too), or got divorced (Craig) or lost a pet (Dora, Mandy), like wtf?  Stop with the unhappiness!!

But I’m happy.  Yes, I am.  I am shouting out with pride, I am happy.  Which I am actually afraid to say that cause I’m afraid, it’ll go back to hell on wheels.

So for Christmas this year I got: a red coat, a black suit jacket, MAC’s Lipglass collection, electric toothbrush (lol don’t ask), new Nickelback CD, oh and a red purse.  Not to mention, my parents are buying me a new computer!  I love the Macbook Pro’s, so I am definitely getting one those, but my computer is SO crappy these days, I don’t think I can wait till mid January for the 17″ Macbook Pro that’s coming out.  :(

We spent 2 days in AC, which was nice – got to relax.  Mom complained heavily to the big guys at Harrah’s cause the service was horrible the past few weeks, and they gave her $150 in room service!  Yee-haw!  Not to mention, my mom, me and my dad all got a full house in Let It Ride – that’s $400-$600 a piece!  And my mom got it twice!

Needless to say, we had fun.

And then last night… I had a date.  At my house.  lol.  It’s with Craig.  You know, I really didn’t want to go out with him.  I met him a week or so before, and I was like ok, he’s fun, but not the best looking… and then Sarah told me to just give him a chance and I did and wow…

I was not expecting him to be good-looking.  I guess, the first night I met him he was wearing a bandana and I was like ew.  He looked like a biker.  And now he looks more like the boy next door.   <3  And we did kiss… and wow…

I have not had a kiss like that since Matt before he left.  It was fireworksy!  I was like melting lol.  He actually came over and brang some games heh, I never played games and cards with a guy!  We also played pool or watched movies.  He kicked my butt :(

But anyway, we’ll see what happens with that… he’s very sweet though.  Kudos.

And I’m excited to get back into the work mode with Jason!  I feel rather lazy lately haha, although I have work to do for my own clients so yeah.  Should get that taken care of.

And if I blog again, it’ll probably be next year or close to next year and that means… that I will be alive.  If you read my blogs, then you’ll know what I’m talking about.  If I don’t live, then it was nice knowing you and yes, I’ve gone a little crazy.  Cheers.

Underage Drinking in AC… I’m a rebel.

Ew it’s gonna be July soon. *scared* I’m lovin’ the summer. I went to Atlantic City yesterday! It was raining everywhere so we had one choice: AC. It was fun! I really had a great time! I went swimming in their pool, I was even in the hot tub in our ROOM. Our freakin hotel room had a hot tub, wtf.

And I walked on the beach with Mom; we talked. She’s really really cool actually. I’d like to consider my Mom one of my best friends :) Mm and I had tons of drinks. I had this one drink …it was really groass. It had rum in it = EWW. It was so freakin strong I couldn’t even taste the drink. Then I got a Carribean Breeze, eh. Not the best. And I got the last drink. It was a Sling? Something like that, yummy.

So here’s my idea: get a drink from the bar (from mom or dad) and walk around in the casino with it. No one would ever check my age because they’d see me with a drink in hand! HA! So they’d have to assume you’re 21 right? I mean you get checked at the bar for your ID already, HAHAHHA.

I feel off my course lately. Tomorrow I wanna get on it. OH! GUESS WHAT!!!! I’m getting my driver’s liscense, ugh finally. Friday I’m going for my permit and then Dad’s gonna start teaching me. Weeeeeee.

And I’m gonna *try* and start excersizing again. Ever since college laid off, I haven’t been excersizing. I bought this video, “Cardio Hip-Hop”, hopefully it’ll get me in the mood lol. But thankfully, when college starts up, I’ll be going to the gym three days a week. ROCK ON!

Kicking ass in design

I’m kicking ass in designing lately. I got an order sorta done today and I like the designs, I just don’t know if she does yet lol.

So I went down to NJ, but didn’t go jet skiing. I woke up too late. But we’re going to Wildwood, NJ this week. Should be fun!

I think I’m back to my “normal” happy self. I’ve just had a really bad week last week, ugh. It was probably PMS sending in a friendly hello. Yay. But no, there were some crappy things that were going on last week. It’s over. Ahh :)

I’ve been playing “Daxter” on PSP lately. SO. Damn. Fun. It’s great, but now I’m stuck at this part. GRRR. It’s freakin impossible to beat! Sighs.

Gettin’ my driver’s liscense this summer, don’t know if I told you. I’m studying the book now! *scared of driving/killing myself/killing someone else*

Job! I’m lookin’ for a job. I called Chili’s, eh. They’re booked with people probably because of the summer, maybe I’ll try in August. I applied at Borders (for the cafe), The Olive Garden (again) and Ruby Tuesday (again!). Gosh darnit, these people better reply this time or I’ll have their heads on a stick!

Saffron-Burrows.com is up which I designed for Maria :) . Yup yup, random stuff. Okay, cya!
